History
The Civic Association
of Pleasantdale, an organization that once existed to represent the interests
of a largely unincorporated area, originally chartered Troop 69 in October of
1958. Dick Catterson of LaGrange was the first Scoutmaster. In 1965 Loren Roberts
of unincorporated La Grange became Scoutmaster, followed the next year by William
F. Puckett, also of unincorporated La Grange. In 1967, Paul Abrahamson of unincorporated
La Grange became Scoutmaster.
Throughout these years, the troop varied in membership from 20 to 30 Scouts. In 1969, Oliver Gade became Scoutmaster. Patrick Bricco became Scoutmaster in 1971. Richard Stephenson of Oak Lawn (and later La Grange) became Scoutmaster in 1973. On April 30, 1976, the Troop's charter lapsed. Pack 69 continued operations and moved it's charter to the Pleasantdale Park District.
After some lean times, Pack 69's membership grew stronger and crossed over 14 Webelos Scouts in the spring of 1997. In March of 1997, 12 of those Scouts formed the basis for the re-activation of Troop 69's charter, with Ron Fox of Willow Springs as Scoutmaster and Steven Figuilo & Bob Fierke of Willow Springs as Assistant Scoutmaster. In 1999, the charters of both Pack and Troop 69 were transferred to their present sponsor, St. Helena's Episcopal Church of Burr Ridge, Illinois. Father George Deatrick is the rector for St. Helena's Church.
